THERE had been a breach of common law by the company, who were negligent in that the driver did not ensure that the door was secure before the coach began its journey, said Commissioner Sir Ernest H. G. Roberts, Q.C., at Monmouthshire Assizes, Newport, last week, when he awarded £127 15s. damages to Daniel Landers, 6 George Street, Newport, against Biyn Motors Co., Pontllanfraith.

Mr. Landers stated in evidence that the coach in which he was travelling swung him against the emergency door on turning a bend. The door opened and he fell onto the road. He did not tamper with it, nor did he open it.

After examining the coach, the Commissioner said he was satisfied that the door would not have opened simply by the plaintiff falling against it. A deliberate action was needed to open it.
