Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE BLOCKADE by drivers at Lafarge's Mountsorrell quarry in Leicestershire (CM 13 May) seems to be over for now, but the bitter dispute behind it goes on. Owner-drivers running out of the quarry refused to work after

rejecting a 3% pay rise from Lafarge, saying they were losing hundreds of pounds a month under a new payment system. More than 40 drivers downed tools and talks with the company broke down. The hauliers, however, have now returned to work and accepted the 3% as they say they see no other way. "We've gone back to work because they wouldn't talk to us and brought outside hauliers in," says one driver. "But we've joined

the GMB union to try and get a bit of back-up. They've advised us to go back to work and negotiate from there. The union's solicitors are also looking at our contracts."

No one from Lafarge was available for comment.
