ERF to have an Allison World Series automatic transmission. The six-speed MD3560 auto box has been chosen to handle the stop/start work which will be carried out by the threeaxle ES8.27 rubbish collection truck. Grundon has also bought its first ERF eight-legger, which will run with an Ampliroll container system. The 8x4 is powered by a Cummins L10-275 engine and runs on Norde rubber suspension.

Czech deal

• Rockwell International Corporation has completed its acquisition of the former automotive component plant of Skoda Mlada Boleslav. The Czech factory will be integrated into Rockwell's worldwide component production operation.

No splits

• 7..F has developed nonsplitter versions of its 165 109 Ecomid and 165151 Ecosplit transmissions. The eight-speed boxes, rated at 1,100Nm and 1,700Nm, give a weight saving of about 12kg and can be be fitted with PT-Os and ZF's integrated retarder. Leyland Daf is the first chassis manufacturer to take the boxes in this form; it specified them for the 75 and 85 Series sixand eight-wheel chassis.

Stack mod

• Fenstone Quarries is using a modified Eminox vertical exhaust stack on an ERF E10-325 8x4 to increase ground clearance for off-road work. A drum silencer, mounted inside the chassis with the tailpipe running vertically in the narrow gap between the cab and the alloy aggregate tipper body, allows full accessibility when the body is raised.
