By the way, there's no substance in the tale that the RHA in the West Midlands has acquired an operator's licence or that it has gone into the passenger business.
Reason for the confusion is simple. Lately a number of minibuses and cv have been seen around the area with West Midlands RHA emblazoned on the side. They belong to the Regional Health Authority. Those of my readers who attended the FTA dinner this year will recall that the Transport Minister made a few jocular remarks about the be-kilted FTA president Ian Phillips.
Jocular is, no doubt, one way of describing the incident; I wonder if Ian Phillips found it so. However, he felt, it did not deter him from donning his traditional dress at the RHA dinner last week, and again Bill Rodgers was there.
This time there were no comments. Indeed, I don't recall seeing the two in any kind of discussion. In fact, the Minister seemed to spend quite a bit of the pre-dinner cocktail party listening to Sir Dan Pettit.
Listening is a good way to learn and there's no better teacher on the transport and distribution scene than the NFC chairman. Let's hope Sir Dan was in good voice.
