A DIRECT express coach service between Scotland and the holiday resorts in North Wales is to be offered jointly by Western SMT Co Ltd, Kilmarnock, and National Travel (North West) Ltd, Manchester, for the first time.

Authority to operate from Glasgow, via Hamilton, Carlisle and Chester and covering the resorts down to Caernarfon, was granted by the North Western Traffic Commissioners. The application was opposed by British Rail, but agreement was reached for its withdrawal after an amendment limiting duplication to 100 single-journeys annually.

The service will operate on Saturdays, from the Spring Bank Holiday weekend to the end of September.

The Commissioners were told it would provide a much more convenient journey for Scottish holidaymakers travelling to North Wales. At present they have to change in Liverpool, where connections for North Wales are not convenient.
