Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HIGHER CHARGES for bodybuilding and vehicle repairs was the main topic for discussion at the annual conference of the Vehicle Builders and Repairers Association, in Bournemouth, last week.

New labour rates are bound to affect insurance premiums.

Concern was expressed at the drift of skilled labour away from the industry.

However, the resulting shortage has been disguised by the reduction in accidents generally, and the decline in business due to the state of the economy.

VBRA president Charles Bailey, said his theme for the year would be improved standards of training throughout the industry.

There must be higher skills in the industry and this must be supported by the means to pay the higher wages that those skills demand.

Differentials had been eroded and the anomalies of the pay code now seemed to outweigh its benefits.

A resolution was passed, therefore, asking that employers be given the power to restore differentials in any Stage Three wages agreement.

The National Federation of Vehicle Trades and the Scottish National Vehicle Builders Association are being asked to support the VBRA in order to present a united front on the issues.
