AN .£8m. plan to redevelop Parkeston Quay, Harwich, was announced this week by British Railways. The proposals include the building of a new roll-on/roll-off vehicle and passenger ferry for the Hook of Holland route and two cellular ships to handle containers. An international freight terminal at Stratford, London, is already being built to link up with the Freightliner network.

The new roll-on/roll-off service, which is ex pected to start in May, 1968, will be operated jointly by BR and the Dutch Zeeland Steamship Co. Each partner will provide a new ship with a capacity for 34 commercial vehicles and 90 cars, or 205 cars.
