THE Minister of Transport has allowed an appeal by Sharpe Bros. (Beighton), Ltd., against a decision of the Yorkshire Licensing Authority refusing to grant them permission to pick up and set down passengers at the New Inn, Hackenthorpe, on excursions and tours from West Street. Beighton.

In his decision, published on Wednesday, the Minister agrees with his inspector [Sir Oswald Allen], that the issues in the case were "closely balanced."

AT the annual conference of the Institute of Traffic Administration last week-end, Lord Merrivale of Walkhampton was re-elected president. Vice-presidents are Mr. R. P. Bowyer, Mr. A. Lawcs Cole, Mr. L. C. Harrison, Mr. C. J. Parker, Mr. B. R. Miller, Mr. E. H. Burn and Mr. F. N. White.

Mr. T. Jackson was elected chairman of the national council, and Mr. J. Foley Egginton and Mr. T. J. D. Morris, vicechairmen. The honorary secretary is Mr. C. R. Griffin and the honorary treasurer. Mr. Harrison.

MORE B.R.S. LORRIES SOLD THE Western Licensing Authority has, it was announced on Tuesday, granted a special A licence for a lorry

(3 tons) to Mr. A. H. Kerslake, The Forge, Williton. In the Northern Area, Little Strickland Trading Co., Ltd., Little Strickland, Newby, have transferred two lorries (7 tons 8 cwt.) to Messrs. L. and N. Wilson, Little Strickland, Newby; one (4 tons 3 cwt.) to Mr, T. R. Gaskarth, Greyhound Inn, Little Strickland, Newby; and one (31 tons) to Messrs. G. and E. M. Lund, 23 Graham Street, Penrith.

USED VEHICLES FOR PORTUGAL

EEFFORTS are being made to export used and reconditioned commercial vehicles to Portugal and Spain. M. W. F. Shuker, managing director of Shukers of Sheffield, Ltd., yesterday flew to Lisbon to investigate the possibilities.
