of Is. Id. a mile was submitted by Barwell's Coaches (Leicester), Ltd., when the War Office sought transport for employees between Leicester and Lubenham, Market Harborough. But the bus company knew that the actual operating cost would be ls. 7d., the East Midland Traffic Commissioners learned last week. Mr. W. H. Milward, a director of Barwell's, explained that the service could be operated at Is. Id. provided they were allowed to combine it with a school contract already being operated. The company wanted to run daily between Leicester and Lubenham. There was opposition by Mr. F. R. Wheeler., proprietor of Commodore Coaches, who said he had tendered is. 9d. a mile, which was an economic figure, Barwell's application was refused.

BRITISH CUMMINS FOR CANADA

E"iNGINES made by the Cummins Engine Co., Ltd., at their factory in Shotts, Lanarks, are being exported to Canada for installation in chassis made by the White Motor Co., Ltd., Toronto. and Canadian-Kenworth, Ltd., Vancouver. Another three Canadian vehicle manufacturers are also said to be fitting British-made Cummins engines, which are standard with American products.
