NEW B LICENCE GRANTED FOR LIME SPREADING

A NEW B licence covering three

vehicles was granted by Mr. W. F. Quin, Scottish Licensing Authority, to Mr. Ian Russell, Loehwinnoch, last week. Mr. Russell said he wanted to give a complete lime and fertilizer spreading service to farmers, collecting lime and fertilizer from the production plants and spreading them on fields. This would eliminate double-handling, which at present had a detrimental effect on the materials.

He produced figures to show that in the past nine months he had earned £6,097 from C-hire haulage and 13,899 for spreading. In that period he had carried 6,609 tons of time and 1,358 tons of slag.

Mr. Quin stipulated "agricultural limes and fertilizers within 40 miles of base, with an extension to Blencowe, Penrith, a source of production," all subject to the surrender of the C-hire licence.
