FURNITURE removers in Yorkshire have formed a new county organization, called the Yorkshire Furniture Removers Association, which, so far, has a membership of about 50. The purpose of the new Association, it is stated, is to supplement the work of the trade's national body, the Furniture Warehousemen and Removers Association, by concentrating on matters of local concern.

The chairman of the new body is Mr. L, R. Turnbull, M.Inst.T., of Leeds, and the vice-chairman is Mr. Wainright, of Huddersfield. During the formation of the new organization, Mr. T. Pickersgill, of Bradford, acted as hon. secretary, but Mr. H. Sagar Jackson, solicitor, of Bardon Chambers, Infirmary Street, Leeds, has now been appointed permanent secretary, and his offices are the headquarters. Only established removers, who possess the necessary special facilities and experience, are eligible for membership.

A committee is already considering standardizing rates among members, and local rates committees are being set up in various Yorkshire towns. The standardization of rates for the hiring of vehicles and the storage of goods, as between Association members, is also under consideration.

With regard to licensing, special attention is being given to the restriction of the radii of operation of nonspecialist carriers.

The Association aims to secure direct representation on the Yorkshire joint Conciliation Board. One or two furniture removers are already members of the Area Board, but they were not appointed to represent furniture removers as such.
