be made across the implement attachment points. The front and rear of the vehicle can be fitted with four, two-point double-acting connections; the centre point can be equipped with a dual-circuit connection coupled to a separate return flow line.

Up to three power rake-offs, either live or transmission driven, may be specified for connections to be made to the front, rear and centre of the vehicle.

Unimogs boast a vast range of options, designed to suit more or less any off-mad application. So far the Medium Series has found favour with forestry, agriculture, construction and the newly privatised utility fleets where vehicle productivity has become a major factor.

As an off-road vehicle the U130 scores highly. But reaching inaccessible areas is only half the story; once there will it have the tools to go to work? In this case, yes. Unimog offers an impressive selection of attachments which can be fitted to either the front or rear of the vehicle. Snowplough and gritter kits will keep the U130 busy in the winter: council fleet managers will be pleased to hear that flail mowers, ditch cleaning gear and weed rippers are also available so it will earn its keep throughout the ymr.

Operators working in the construction industry may find the brush and suction sweeper attachments useful: for more mainstream work your Unimog can also be equipped with a demountable forklift, a medium-capacity crane, and standard or three-way tipper bodies. Road-builders have fitted grader and planer attachments to Unimogs, while the privatised electricity boards are finding them productive insulated hydraulic platforms for hot-glove working and pole erection.

Forestry and agricultural operators are catered for with a range of wood-chipping and spraying gear, and if you have a score to settle, Unimogs have been fitted with rocket launchers...

At a more mundane level a conventional dropside body can be fitted, giving the U130 a payload of up to three tonnes.

• ON THE ROAD

To see if the Unimog can live up to its all rain reputation we took our U130 to Army's Long Valley tank testing track. only did the Unimog handle everything track could throw at it, but it did so , almost alarming ease.

Mercedes-Benz has been building Unin for 50 years now, and this experience shov the design. A cut-away bonnet section in f of the steering wheel combines with the 1 rear and two-piece side windows to de: excellent all-round visibility.
