Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Bryan Jarvis ▪ CaterpilIer distributor H Leverton has bought a versatile Foden 3325 eightlegger powered by the latest Caterpillar 3176B engine and equipped with an unusual Scorpion rear ramp assembly on its We[ford dropside body.

The electronically controlled Euro-2 10.3-litre Cat unit is fitted with a Jacobs engine brake and drives through an Eaton Twin Splitter gearbox to the FF20 rubber-suspended rear bogie.

The truck it replaced had a tail-end crane; the 3325 is equipped with a 35t/m Pesci SP350 loader mounted behind the cab.

With four stabilisers the crane can lift from 17.5t close in to 3.9t at a distance of 7.9m, enabling the eight -legger to self-load generator packs, engines or

items of plant.

Beneath the heavyduty bodywork is a

300mm tubular braced sub-frame with an outrigged steel underframe, A 5M-tonne single-line-pull winch is mounted amidships to help load vehicles up the hydraulically folding Scorpion rear ramp.

Controlled separately via the main loader circuitry, each ramp takes up to 5.0 tonnes and folds to provide a flush extension of the main floor.

With the drop sides removed and stored under the body, retractable ISO twist locks enable 20ft containers to be carried.

The deck is 5.5m long with another 2.0m of sloping beaver tail; it can take loads up to 15 tonnes.

H Leverton will operate the vehicle from Windsor.
