Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THREE types of hand truck are now being offered by Conveyancer Fork Trucks, I Ltd., Liverpool Road, Warrington. The Skidtruck is for carrying cases weighing up to 16 cwt. and incorporates a self-loading system. The appliance is brought to the case and the handle is moved to the front and used as a lever to raise the case. The platform of the Skidtruck is then pushed under the case and the handle returned to its normal position. To unload, the appliance is given a quick pull. No stillages or pallets are employed,

The Drumtruck is a three-wheeled appliance with a pair of grippers on a bar. These may be spaced according to the size of, drum to be carried. The Handtruck may be used to carry either drums or cases, and has a clamping device to facilitate loading. Its capacitY is 10 cwt.

These units are of the Lande pattern and Conveyancer are marketing them in this and several overseas countries.

Twenty-three different sets cover a wide range of models, and a suitable pack represents a useful addition to the spares which may be carried on a vehicle for emergency use.

Lighter TeleleVers TSLELEVER tipping gear with a

70-degree angle of tip and power return, previously offered in heavy-duty form only, is now available from Telehoist, Ltd., Cheltenham, for mediumduty chassis. The equipment is said to allow faster tipping, whilst the linkage design confers exceptional stability. Body overrun is prevented by a Patented control system.

Better Lifts LONGER rams fitted to their 5-ton hydraulic vehicle lifts by Tecalemit, Ltd., Plymouth, Devon, increase the lifting height by ,1 ft. to 5 ft., giving a better working position for under-body maintenance. The Flush-fitting and Wheel-free models are priced at £438 and 1301 respectively.

Twin-filament Bulb

INCORPORATING a shield over. one

✓ of its two filaments, a headlamp bulb produced by Siemens Edison Swan, Ltd., is said to minimize dazzle. Designed for a 12-volt supply, the bulb is rated at 40-50 watts.

Concrete Buildings DREFABRICATED for easy erection

• by unskilled labour, a range of concrete buildings using many common components is in production by Cawood. Wharton and Co., Ltd., 585 Woolwich Road, London, S.E.7. Requiring little maintenance, other than an occasional coat of paint on the wooden doors and window frames, a battery of 12 garages cost £740. A single garage measuring 12 ft. 3 in. by 8 ft. is priced at £63.

Magnetic Chucks AFINE-POLE magnetic chuck, suitable for production grinding machines on which relatively small components have to be secured, has been introduced by James Neill and Co., Ltd., Napier Street, Sheffield, 11. Known as the Eclipse type FP 186, the chuck measures 18 in. by 6 in. Larger models will be available shortly, state the manufacturers.

The arrangement of poles in the chuck is • such that the inner and Outer permanent magnets are linked together, enabling magnetic flux from all magnets to be fed to a single work piece placed anywhere on the chuck surface.

Windscreen De-icing raA BOOKLET called "The Prevention of Mist and Ice on Windows" has been issued by the Triplex Safety Glass Co., Ltd. It details existing methods of demisting and describes two new devices for heating glass electrically to maintain clear visibility.

One method, which employs a finewire grid inserted between the layers of

laminated glass, is said to be effective• but may not be used on vehicle windscreens as the grid tends to diffract point sources of light.

The other process, which involves coating the glass to he heated with .a thin gold film called Triplex OF, can be used for any application. The gold film, which imparts a pale straw colour to the glass, is transparent and absorbs only 5-8 per cent, of light. It is capable of carrying up to 1,000 watts and will therefore de-ice under the mast severe conditions.

Filter Glasses TO enable customers to choose the correct type of protective filter glasses tor their welding operatives, Chance Bros., Ltd., Smethwick, Birmingham, are issuing Wallets and cards containing

• seven Protex glasses for electrical welding and eight Protal and Protex glasses for gas welding.

From this selection it is easy to arrive at the correct filter for any particular job. The cards and wallets are available free on application to suppliers of welding protective equipment.

Availability Charts CHARTS to indicate the serviceability of fleet vehicles are offered by Adapta-Charts, Ltd., 129 Hammersmith Road, London, W.14. Designed for wall mounting, they consist of perforated plastics panels into which various coloured symbols are inserted.

A date scale at the top of the panel covers two months, and five columns on the right detail the main reasons for vehicle immobility. At the left are bars representing the vehicles in the fleet. In line with each bar, coloured symbols arc inserted showing the reason for immobility and its duration.

Apart from showing operational availability, the use of a chart of this type provides information on those units of the fleet most prone to faults.

Flange Standard

THE British Standards Institution, 2 Park Street, London, W.!, have published a new British Standard at 4s. 6d. dealing with patterns for the output flanges of carburetters. Flange designs are divided into five geometrically different groups, and each contains a range suitable for carburetters with different bores.

Dimensions are given in inches and centimetres as the metric system • is frequently used in Britain.
