23rd convention of Exide service agents, organized by Chloride Batteries, Ltd. the sales manager, Mr. E. Powell, gave some interesting details concerning the growth of the 'service organization. He said that there were now -417 such agents all over the country. The idea was conceived in 1920 by the late managing director, Mr. D. P. Dunn, who decided that efficient service would be essential to the greatly increasing number of road Users; he therefore called upon Mr, W. Davis to start a chain of Specialists in battery maintenance, and by the end of 1920 59 were appointed. Of these, 21 were represented at the banquet out of the 32 who were still acting in this capacity.

The chairman of the agents was Mr. C. J. B. Barlow, M.I.E.E., who was appointed in the early days. He conducted the two days' business session of the 1952 convention as a service agents' meeting after the proceedings had been opened by the sales director, Mr_ H. V. Scofield, M.1.E.E., who presided at the banquet in The Pavilion, Bournemouth, which was attended by 720 representatives and guests.
