VOLKSWAGEN HAS brought forward the sale date of its new Crafter by a month, to 1 August.

The run out of the previous model, the LT, has been quicker than the manufacturer predicted. paving the way for an early introduction of the new model, which has been developed in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz.

Panel van, chassis-cab and double-cab will be available from the start,while the window van will arrive in 2007.

New to the range is the Maxi version weighing in at 5.0-tonne GVW and there is also an automatic option, called Shiftmatic. Power comes from a 2.5-litre common-rail unit producing 87, 108, 134, or 161hp.

• Ford dealerships are now offering test drives of its new Transit, which went on sale in June. Slarting at £13,150 the new version includes CD/radio,ABS, high-output alternator, Bluetooth technology and an improved security system. There's also three years' free servicing, while a selection of 0% and low-rate finance offers are available.
