• A Bristol truck driver has been released on bail after a night of police questioning following the discovery of a woman's body on the hard shoulder of the M5.

Last Friday (14 July) the body of Janet Blythe was found at 05:00hrs near Junction 14 of the motorway after it was spotted by another truck drver. Police immediately sealed off the road causing massive tailbacks.

It has emerged that Blythe had pulled into the nearby Michaelwood Services with a blown gasket but when a mechanic offered to repair the car she declined. Fifteen minutes later she was found dead surrounded by almost £1,000 in cash.

It is understood that Blythe had been travelling south to attend a court case in Exeter where she was due to face charges of child cruelty. A post mortem has revealed that her injuries were consistent with being hit by a high-sided vehicle while in an upright position.

The unnamed truck driver, who had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, was bailed to appear on 16 August pending police enquiries.
