• The government has announced a 20% per year increase in spending on roads and public transport.
Chancellor Gordon Brown told the Commons on Tuesday that the total spend would increase from £4.9bn this year to .201bn by the year 2003-2004. The Freight Transport Association welcomed the move in principle. Full details will appear in next week's CM.
