The Hawk took the opportunity this week to catch up on some reading. Steaming is the magazine produced by the National Traction Engine Trust.

This quarterly publication is packed with fascinating features and illustrated throughout with archive and recent photographs. In this issue Derek Rayner reports on his many visits to the Dampfwalzen-Club Schweiz (DWCS)—The Swiss Steamroller Club—and reproduces an article on the history of Zurich firm Ed King & Co, which was originally written by Ernst liuwyler for the MVOS magazine, In Florance Revisited, Derek Rayner and Richard Hullah retrace the footsteps of photographer Major Ronald JW Ind. Hullah brings his Aveling & Porter steam roller (No 2481) all the way from Leeds on a return visit to the city where it spent its working life. The pair return to the exact location in front of Florence Villa to recreate the photograph originally

taken of No 2481 in 1889. Steaming also includes news from around the country and from around the world as well as an excellent letters section. A cracking and informative good read.

The annual subscription to NTET is £20 and £10 for pensioners. Steaming is sent free to all members.
