The Department of Employment has published a booklet dealing with first aid in the Health and Safety at Work series. The booklet is intended to help occupiers of premises covered by the Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Ac', 1963 to establish efficient first-aid services. It emphasizes the importance of first-aid and draws attention to the statutory requirements for providing first-aid facilities.

There are sections dealing with training and qualifications of firsteiders, the provision and contents of first-aid boxes, treatment and the keeping of records. The siting, design and construction and equipment of first-aid rooms are given special attention.

The booklet also gives advice on the setting up of multiple casualty 'centres in large office blocks or shops like departmental stores where emergencies may arise through fire, explosion, structural collapse or the influx of toxic fumes.

The Offices, Shops and Railway Premises First Aid Order 1964 is reproduced as an appendix to the booklet, together with information about certificates of first-aid training, approved training bodies and accident record forms.
