Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Britain's entry to the EEC is greatly multiplying the number of manufacturing firms needing to understand the transport problems involved if they deliver their own goods. It is also creating many opportunities for professional road transport operators to develop a potentially profitable service to Europe.

The publication of Transport and Delivery to EEC Customers by David Lowe, is highly topical and every traffic office concerned with movements to Europe would find the book useful.

The book deals with all modes of transport and describes the types of goods appropriate to each mode, the likely speed of transit and typical rates. It is helpful on the laws and regulations governing the size of vehicles and loads and the vitally important documentary aspects.

One of the most useful sections deals with drivers and driving requirements. The many possibilities of unpredictable delays listed suggest that drivers with some fluency in French, German or Italian will be more likely to get out of trouble quickly than those with a mere smattering of foreign language(s). It should not be necessary for British drivers to have to seek the help of school children as translators.

The contents list in the book is so comprehensive that an index is not needed. It is extraordinary the amount of information relevant to the subject that David Lowe has packed in 122 pages.

Published in conjunction with P-E Consulting Group by Kogan Page Ltd, 116a Pentonville Road, London N1 9JN, price £2.50, this "briefing guide" can certainly be recommended to busy transport and distribution managers and export staffs. J.D.
