THREE men whose average age is 41 assume key positions in the Rotates Group in changes announced by Lord Rootes last week.

The Hon. Geoffrey Rootes, 45-yearold elder son of Lord Rootes, takes the major of three new managing directorships announced. Previously deputy chairman and managing director of Humber, Ltd., and its subsidiary companies the group's manufacturing division—Mr. Geoffrey Rootes now becomes chairman and joint managing director. He also takes up the newly created post of managing director of Rootes Motors, Ltd., the group's parent company.

His cousin, Mr. Timothy D. Rootes, 37-year-old son of Sir Reginald Rootes, has been director of sales and service of the group's manufacturing companies for the last six years and now becomes joint managing director of Humber. Ltd. He also assumes the chairmanship of Rootes Motors (Parts), Ltd., from the Hon. Geoffrey Rootes, who remains on the board.

Mr. R. W. Lee, 42, who has been director and general manager of Commer Cars, Ltd., for the past two years, becomes managing director of that cornparty and so assumes control of the group's commercial vehicle manufacturing division. Mr. Lee also joins the hoard of Tilling-Stevens.

A further appointment in the group's manufacturing division is that of Mr. B. Campbell, who has been divisional director in charge of the provincial depots of Rootes, Ltd. He is elected to the board of the Hillman Motor Co., Ltd., and is appointed director of Group Car Sales (Home).

Lord Rootes remains chairman of Rootes Motors, with his brother. Sir Reginald Rootes. as deputy chairman.

Mr. John Sherriff has been appointed ransport manager to the city of )unfermline, Fife. He is at present .ssistant transport superintendent for the ilasgow and Western division of the ;catfish Gas Board and will take up his tew post on August 1.

Dr. Oswald Putze has been appointed hainnan of the Board of the Gernan commercial-vehicle manufacturing km of Bussing Autornobilwerke AG, of 1runswick, West Germany, This follows he death of Dr. Rudolf Egger-Btissing, eported in The Commercial Motor of une 29, 1962. At the same time Herr ieverin Bertsch, Dipl.-Ing., has left the 3iissing board.

Mr. J. A. Pannell, the Director of Transport, the John Lewis Partnership, s to retire at the end of July. Mr. 'apnell joined United Automobile ;ervices, Ltd., at the end of 1919, holding 7arious engineering appointments. In 932 he was appointed chief engineer, :ity of Oxford Motor Services, Ltd., and n 1942 chief engineer, South Wales Fransport, Ltd. He came to London in 946.

The board of Leyland Motors, Ltd., tave agreed to the resignation of Mr. J. L. Ilackwood Murray as a director of that :ompany, since his responsibilities as nanaging director of Leyland's principal ubsidiary in South Africa necessitate us permanent residence abroad and on hat account prevent him from taking part n matters of major policy which are the nerogative of the parent board.

Two new organizers of the Commercial ;ervices Group have been appointed by he executive committee of the Transport tnd General Workers' Union. Mr. F. G. "...oles, who has worked on both the rassenger and commercial sides of the ndustry, has been appointed organizer in Region No. 3 which covers the West :ountry. Mr. H. L. Verinder, who intil his appointment worked for B.R.S. Parcels) in Liverpool, is the new gganizer for Region 12 which covers VI erseyside.
