Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A technical booklet on car painting for amateurs has just been published by Postans and Morley Bros., Ltd., Trevor Street Works, Birmingham, who are varnish, colour and paint manufacturers. The booklet deals very thoroughly with the subject of ear painting and touching-up, and is divided into several sections, in each of which much useful information is to be found. Although it is written in the first place as a guide for the owner-driver, the contents are, of course, also applicable to work in connection with van and other commercial bodies. A copy of the booklet can be obtained on application to the address given above.

Newport's Popular Buses.

The tramways committee of the Newport (Mon.) Corporation has recently issued its report dealing with the motorbus services for the year ended March 31st last. This shows that the total receipts amounted to £7,486, as compared with £4,531 a year earlier, and that 888,303 passengers were carried against 533,663 in the previous year. The buses travelled 159,635 miles, this being nearly 50,000 more than in the previous 12 months. The receipts per bus-mile increased from 9.733d. in 1924-1925 to 11.255d. in the year covered by the report.

The motorbus services of the corporation have been considerably increased during the year, and the all-round improvement shown is no doubt largely due to the fact that the buses have been brought into the centre of the town.

Good Features of a Leather Cloth.

An interesting feature of a booklet which has just been issued by the Welin-laiggins Co., Ltd., Morley House, 314-322, Regent Street, London, W.1, is that the cover is made of the article to which attention is drawn in the contents, i.e., Eabrikoid leather cloth. The value and length of life of a cloth of this nature depend mainly on two factors, these being the quality of the coating and the adhering properties of the coat ing to the fabric base. Fabrikoid is claimed to meet both these demands, and as many as 27 coats of Pyroxylin, one of the toughest wear-resistance sub stances known, are scientifically pressed to the closely woven cloth base. The material is claimed to be proof against the effects of the sun, water and heat and will not stain.

Strachan and Brown Extensions.

The bodywork products of Messrs. Straehan and Brown, Wales Farm Road, London, W.3, particularly bus and coach bodies, have been in such demand of recent years that the company have now found it necessary to erect a new shop, and a section of this is shown in the accompanying illustration. The new shop covers an area of over 60,000 sq. ft., and is now in course of completion at Acton. When the extension is completed the company will be in a position to double their output.

At the, present time Messrs. Strachan and Brown have a number of important orders in hand, these including six bus bodies, which are being mounted on Daimler chassis for the Newcastle Corporation, the balance of a contract for 15 bodies being fitted to Garrett trolley

bus chassis for the Ipswich Corporation, whilst they are building five special trolley-bus bodies for Garrett vehicles, which are being shipped to the municipal authorities in Copenhagen.

In the design of the new shop the company have made arrangements for petrol pumps to be installed for the convenience of owners when they are taking delivery of their vehicles.

Strawberries by Road.

Motor vehicles have played an important part in the marketing of the strawberry. crop this year, and daily services have been run from the Swanwick district of Hampshire to London and other large centres. Some 5,500 baskets of fruit were sent from Botley in one day.

Exclusive Bus Rights.

At a meeting of the Blyth Corporation a letter was read from Messrs. W. Scott and Co., asking for the sole right to ply for hire on the road from Blyth to Newcastle, via Cowpon, Bebside and Horton. The corporation decided to inform the company that the council had no power to grant such a request„ and, further, that it could not be a party to any omnibus proprietor having the monopoly of any omnibus route.
