Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Selected Information which is likely to be of Interest to Makers, Owners, and their Buyers, A Medium-load Jack.

We have frequently been asked of late to recommend to users a suitable jack for employment in garages which accommodate commercial vehicles of :30ewt, or two-ton capacity. There is a number of excellent jacks on the market which are able to take loads of, say, 10 cwt. or of five tons or over, but the same amount of attention does not seem to have been given by manufacturers to the production of a simple form of jack that is suitable for intermediate loads, and is yet sufficiently robust in design to withstand the knocking about that it is sure to get in running sheds and garages. We have had recommended to us the Phillips patent jack, supplied by George Hatch, Ltd., of 20, Queenhithe, RC. The 30-cwt. pattern sells at his., whilst a slightly-larger size—of two tons capacity— costs 13s, 6d. only.

Chain Drives by Hans Renold, Ltd.

An illustration on this page aptly demon strafes the range of sizes of chain wheels which Hans Renold, Ltd., is now prepared to offer to users of chain gearing. The small sprocket. which, in the photograph we reproduce, the man is seen to be holding in his right hand, is one suitable for a half-inch-pitch cycle chain, whilst, the huge ring, in the middle of which the man is standing, is nearly 7 ft. in diameter. and is one of a number that has been used for gear drives on mining machinery. Hans Renold. Ltd., manufactures nothing but chains and sprockets, and this maker claims that, as the whole of its energies are concentrated on such specialized productions, it has a right to be entitled a worldwide authority on the subject of chain gearing of all kinds. The output from the works is steadily increasing, and during last year, excluding cycle and motor chains, complete chain drives were produced to transmit over 67,000 b.p.— an increase of nearly 50 per cent. on last year.
