CUMBRIAN-BASED transport operators Stobart Group and AW Jenkinson Forest Products have ordered an additional 170 new Scanias, which are in addition to the deal for 1,000 trucks made last year.
Stobart Group chief operating officer William Stobart cites increased transport volumes and the need to keep the fleet fresh and efficient as reasons for the additional order, Our fleet of Scania trucks has been performing well and is capable of meeting our diverse operational needs and demands — so we were happy to commit to adding more new Scania Rand Gseries models to the fleet," he says.
The extended deal is for more R440 6x2 Highline cabs and the G400 4x2s with standard sleeper cabs for Stobart, and R440 6x2s with Highline cabs for AW Jenkinson.
So far 665 of the 1,000 trucks ordered have been delivered and Scania will deliver at least 500 vehicles to Stobart Group/AW Jenkinson Forest Products this year. Both firms formed a joint venture agreement last March called Stobart Biomass Products (SBPL) to source and distribute biomass fuel.
