DERBYSHIRE County Council has handed out more than £2,000 worth of fines in a crackdown on overloaded trucks.
Cases have been brought against 12 drivers after trading standards officers carried out a series of spot checks across the region, including one in Oakthrope where residents and local councillors have complained about HGVs using the B6013, which has a weight limit of 7.5 tonnes. The drivers were fined up to £225 plus costs.
Councillor Walter Burrows, Der byshire County Council's cabinet member for public protection and transport,says:"These are the latest in a series of successful prosecutions by our tradingstandards team after drivers were caught breaching weight restrictions.
"Weight limits are placed on roads for good reason: to improve safety for residents, pedestrians and other road users and to protect the environment, whether urban or rural. We hope these fines send out a clear message to drivers to comply with the restrictions or risk prosecution."
