Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A CONTROL UNIT now available in the UK enables a driver of an HIAB lorry-mounted crane to operate it anywhere within a 9-metre radius of his machine.

The driver carries the electromechanical unit camera fashion —on a neck strap and linked via cable to a circuit board.

The unit can be bought from George Cohen Machinery Ltd, sole agent for HIAB in Great Britain and Ireland.

The system is known as Emproc (Electro Mechanical Proportional Remote Control). The circuit board controls up to six electric motors, each of which motivates a lever connected to standard HIAB controls. The mobile unit carried by the driver contains six miniature levers, each controlling a separate loader motion.

Emproc allows two or more loader motions to be operated simultaneously, making it easy to co-ordinate all six movements. A fail-safe system is incorporated which neutralises all loader movements in the event of a short-circuit or cable breakage.

The entire unit is powered by either the 12V or 24V vehicle battery. When not in use the control box is stowed in the vehicle cab. The Emproc system can be fitted to most HIAB loaders equipped with horizontal control levers. Reverting to manual operation is achieved by simply loosening the Emproc linkages to the control levers.
