Dial no more

DIAL-A-RIDE operations between Golders Green and Hampstead Garden Suburb will cease on March 1, announced London Transport this week.

Instead, the replacement service will run on a completely fixed route, but will stop anywhere when hailed. The maximum fare will drop from 25p to 15p with the change over.

Plaxtons staff-up

TO BOOST coach production Plaxtons have engaged in a press advertising campaign to recruit sprayers, coach-builders and welders to their Scarborough factory.

Only last year Plaxtons laid off about 100 workers at a time of acute chassis shortage, and now with large numbers of Ford and Leyland chassis available they are trying to increase production.

Dix goes Grey-Green

GREY-GREEN Coaches have acquired Dix Coaches of Dagenham, it was announced this week. The 40-year-old firm is to continue to be run on the same basis as before.

Both firms are now owned by the George Ewer Group. Dix founders Mr A. C. Vincent and Mrs Joan Maisey are to continue to be associated with them.

As you were

A FORMER adviser to the Ministry of Transport on traffic in London has now come out strongly against the introduction of further bus lanes in London.

Sir Alex Samuels, chairman of the Movement for London campaign, has called for theintroduction of the lanes to be halted for a complete re-evaluation of the scheme.
