A PROVISIONAL arrangement has I-% been made by George Ewer and Co., Ltd., to buy Ardley Bros. Coaches, Ltd., Dowsett Road,. London, N.I7.

The Ardley company, which is owned by the Archbold organization of Leeds, operates 11 Bedford and Foden coaches. It runs excursions and tours to south coast resorts, and has an extensive private-hire connection in the districts of north and east London in which the Ewer concern is interested.

George Ewer and Co., Ltd., already has about 120 vehicles.

RESERVATIONS ON REPORT D ECOM MENDATIONS that Glasgow Corporation should adopt the Inglis Report in principle have been made by the transport, highways and

planning committees. Reservations have been made, among them that the corporation should not agree at this stage that trams should be replaced by trolleybuses or motorbuses, and that corporation services outside the city should not be discontinued.

SERVICE MUST CONTINUE

UNTIL the Post Office could make other arrangements for the transport of mail, the Fort WilliamGlenfinnan bus service of David MacBrayne, Ltd., must be continued. This ruling was given by the Scottish Licensing Authority, last week, when the company asked to abandon services on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

A representative of Inverness County Council said that the service was one which the company was expected to operate under its Government-subsidy agreement.

The Scottish Deputy Licensing Authority, last week, deferred his decision upon an application by Neil Beaton, Ltd., to discontinue services between Waternish and Portree, until applications from two other operators who wish to provide such a facility have been heard. The manager of the concern said that the sale of the PortreeGlendale service to another company was dependent upon the Authority agreeing to the discontinuation of the Waternish section during the winter.

Strong protest against the abandon 62 ment of the service was made by the inhabitants of Waternish, for whom it would mean almost complete isolation from the mainland.
