Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Chris Green, transport controller, Norbert Dentressangle Logistics (Carlsberg contract) Joined company: May 2008 Started current role: August 2012 What do you love about your job?

A lot has changed since Norbert Dentressangle (ND) took on the [Carlsberg] contract and it is great to work with a team that is determined to succeed. I am given a lot of autonomy, so decisions I make really matter.

What did you do previously?

I started working life in the army, then worked for a local manufacturer that supplied the automotive sector, but that industry took a huge nosedive in early 2000s. I started driving Class 1 shortly after and soon realised that I wanted to get into the management side of the industry.

Where do you see yourself in five years' time? I want to be a general manager. I am studying for a foundation degree in leadership and management, which will be a big help to achieving my goals. The ND training is first class; it is tailored around our operational roles. I have gone from driver to this position in just over four years, so I feel that my next goal is achievable.

What's the best thing about working in transport? It is a very fast-paced environment to work in and although it is a cliché, no two days are the same. You can't sit back as the industry is constantly changing and you need to adapt.

How would you recommend the industry to others? If you are prepared to put the effort in, this industry is rewarding. There is such a diverse range of jobs that there is something here for everyone. It certainly is not a 9-to-5 job, but if you want to be challenged, you can't go far wrong.

What's the worst job you've ever had?

When I was at school, I had a part-time job at Wimpy. Whenever there was a children's party, I had to put on the Mr Wimpy suit.
