Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

reports were collected on more than 30.500 -h` deer-vehicle collisions that occurred in Britain between January 2000 and December 2005. This was in response to a need to counter the increase in such accidents owing to an increase in traffic volume and deer population. Data was collated from many sources, including the police, local authorities,

motor insurance companies and animal welfare organisations. Members of the public were urged to report, via a dedicated website, any deer found dead by the roadside. Of the reports collected, 785 involved personal injury accidents being filed that arose because of incidents with deer. Of these 20 led to human fatalities and 134 to serious injury. The economic 'value of prevention' of these incidents has been calculated at 230m.

Through the research it is possible to identify the most dangerous stretches of road for deer collisions, when they are most likely to happen and the species of deer most likely to be involved. This allows local authorities to act upon the information gathered and put in place safeguards to limit the impact of deer on the roads, through habitat management or the erection of warning signs for drivers.
