Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

machine frame. Would you please advise on the notification procedure to be followed? There is some confusion in our traffic office over this.

A The law relating to the carriage of loads exceeding 14ft but not exceeding 20ft in width is contained in the Motor Vehicle (Authorisation of Special Types) General Order, 1966 (No. 1289). Article 23 provides that vehicles complying in all other respects with the Construction and Use Regulations may carry a wide load between 14ft and 20ft subject to:—

(a) Ministry approval as to the time, date, and route of the journey, (article 27): (b) Police notification, with at least two clear days' notice. excluding Sundays, any Bank Holiday, Christmas Day or Good Friday (article 28); (c) Supply of a mate (article 25): (d) Adherence to a speed limit of 20 mph (article 24).

From the practical viewpoint it would be a good idea to fit marker boards, and Marker lights, particularly if the Ministry and/or police authority schedule movement for early morning or late evening. While marker boards are not a legal requirement for wide loads, marker lights are specifically referred to in the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1964 {No. 2051. If in cioubt a "Christmas tree" display is best.
