Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THIS week's prize of three guineas goes I to Mr. P. Firth of Castlefield, Yorks.

It is for the removal of Bedford front

hub inner bearings when they are really fast on the stub axle. By drilling a 0.375 in. hole through the hackplate, behind the inner race, the bearing can be struck from the back side with a punch and removed easily. When fitting a new backplate I always drill it beforehand, which is more convenient and saves valuable time later on. '

Comments Handyman: This is an old problem, and at one time some makers thoughtfully provided two holes suitably arranged to do just this job. In some cases the holes were also threaded to take a pair of bolts to push the race clear of the abutment face. A good idea, Mr. Firth, which I use and recommend. although two holes diametrically opposite would be better.
