SIXdifferent oil companies had entered into long-term contracts with the British Railways Board for the bulk transport of oil by rail, said Mr. Marples last week. Most of the contracts were for at least 10 years.
Terms of the agreements were confidential to the parties concerned, went on the Minister, and he did not feel justified in asking the board to provide fuller information or details of the expected volumes of traffic.
