BRISTOL City Council propose 1-1 to introduce six experimental mete bays, each 30 ft. long and 9 ft. wide exclusively for use by goods vehicles This experiment, expected to take plac4 within a year, follows a recent Bristo public inquiry into an extension of tin city's parking zone.

The Minister of .Transport's lnspec tor, Mr. G. S. McIntyre, recommending a zone extension, referred to the diffi culty of parking in the dock area. FIc suggested that some provision should bc made and added: "If goods vehicles arc to be parked on the streets it is clear13 preferable that they should be in parking places, where they will not obstruct traffic movement or access to premises ".

Mr. J. Bennett, the city engineer. suggested the provision of a number ol bays in streets where vehicles tended tc wait for a chance to load or unload.

The bays will be introduced adjacenI to warehouses in Prince Street, The Grove and Narrow Quay and the chief constable does not envisage any difficulties in their. operation. Vembers of Bristol Council's traffic advisory committee have queried whether a private motorist could be prosecuted for obstruction if he used one of the bays. However, the committee feels the risk of any legal entanglement is worth taking. The charge for the use of the hays for one hour will be Is., and 6d. for half an hour.
