7'0-DAY'S tempo of the Nation and 1 its will for victory were clearly reflected at, the annual works supper of F. Perkins, Ltd., which was held at Peterborough last week. Always a " matey " affair, this year's event— much bigger than in the past, because the company's pay-roll is swollen by war workers—once again bore evidence of the good feeling that animates the relations between • directors and employees.

Guests of honour were Brig. H. Lumsden, D.S.O., MC., and WingComdr: H. Norrington, both of whom testified, in speeches responding to the toast of " The Visitors," -proposed by Capt. A. J. M. Richardson (a director), to the good work being done by the company, and spurred the workers on to further efforts in the national interest.

Mr. F. A. Perkins, chairman, in a forceful speech, referred to the critical position to-day of the country, but emphasized that ultimate victory was assured if everyone made a supreme effort to help prosjuction, adding that the winning of the war will rest with the engineering industry. He paid particular tribute to the extraordinary way that women taken into the works had performed their allotted tasks. He also spoke of the chances that employees had of climbing the ladder of promotion.

In a confident and well-delivered speech on women now in industry, Miss M. K. Andrews, female welfare supervisor of the company, stressed the fact that, to-day, in some cases, women, especially on repetition work, are doiug as well as the men, 'adding 'that, after a little more practice, " we hope to beat them at their own game." It is encouraging, she stressed, to know that in these troubled days the women of Britain are not only keeping the home fires burning but are swelling and furthering that production which is so vital to the war effort.
