Reading device for step-frame

A LEADING SPORTS industry engineering contractor has acquired a step-frame trailer to transport its heavy plant across the UK.

Salisbury, Wiltshire-based MJ Abbott will use the tri-axle device from Andover Trailers, in conjunction with a new Volvo FH13 6x2 tag-axle tractor unit, on its work helping to construct golf courses and sports grounds.

The 13.6-metre, 32-tonne bespoke-built SFCL 40 has a new low-profile doublesloped neck with cropped corners and three-member hydraulic power toe ramps with access toes. It is designed to carry 13-tonne to 20-tonne excavators, and features a Gigant self-tracking and lifting front axle with interlock, together with air-suspension and raise/lower controls built-in as standard.

The trailer is the first step-frame example from Andover to be equipped with an onboard Knorr-Bremse Trailer Information Module (TIM).

Adrian Abbott, technical director at MJ Abbott, says: "The TIM is an easy-to-use trailer-mountable or hand-held reading device that is able to provide valuable information for the operator/driver on axle group load, odometer and trip distance, voltage, air pressures and wheel sensor information as well as EBS diagnostics without the need of a PC.

"It is easy for the operator to diagnose a problem without calling out a service engineer,"
