LONDON DELIVERY drivers are set to be hit by two months of restrictions on a series of roads during the 2012 Olympic Games, The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has revealed that the asyet-unconfirmed 60-day period between July and September 2012 will include the lead-up to the actual Olympic Games, the period during and after the Games, as well as the Paralympic Games, The ODA says that just 0.5% of London's roads will become temporary dedicated Olympic lanes although only on dual carriageway off-side lanes.

The restrictions are part of the Department for Transport's recently published list of 232 sections of existing roads across the capital the Olympic Route Network giving athletes, officials and the media priority at times in the mornings and evenings to travel to and from the venues.

The ODA is conducting an ongoing consultation over the proposals with organisations such as the Road Haulage Association and Freight Transport Association.

Mike Bracey, Brewery Logistics Group chairman, says the issue of deliveries during the Games is causing him "grave concern':

He adds:-Brewers are concerned about the impact on deliveries.

If there are these Olympic lanes, how will drivers manage to deliver to pubs on these routes?"

Gareth Smith, head of development industrial at Wincanton, says that while the issue of delivering to customers in the capital during the Olympics will need to be carefully considered, the firm has "experience muting and scheduling its deliveries during seasonal peaks and on busy roads': Simon Harper, head of road network at TNT, adds: "We are a hit off at the moment in terms of timings three years away so we are not too concerned."
