Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A SHUTTLE service for carrying I-1 rock a distance of 100 yd. between quarry face and crusher probably represents the most arduous duty that a tipper can be called upon to perform.

For such a service Nash Rocks, Stone and Lime Co., Presteigne, have been supplied with an 8-ton scow-type tipper by the Eagle Engineering Co., Ltd., Warwick, It is based on an A.E.C. Monarch Mk. III chassis with a 12-ft. 1-in. wheelbase. The single rear wheels are fitted with special tyres, thus avoiding a high incidence of tyre damage from rock forced between the covers of twin wheels.

The electrically welded body

has an internal length of 7 ft. and an average depth of 1 ft, 9 in. It is constructed of mild-steel plate reinforced with 4-in. by 2-in, pressed-steel channel members, and the floor is strengthened by cross-members, longitudinals and angle brackets to resist repeated rock impact. The rear end is sloped to 20° to form the scow, and the front is extended over the.cab to act as a robust guard.

Eagle single-ram hydraulic tipping gear is mounted in an inclined position and can tip the body to an angle of 520 in 45 sec. The pump is driven from the engine power take-off by means of an extension shaft and chain. The controls' are placed in the cab of the A.E.C.Eagle tipper.

The tipping-gear frame is of rolledsteel channel braced with tubular crossmembers and a large-diameter tube welded to support plates forms the anchor for the ram at its upper end. Lateral movement of the body, when tipped, is resisted by a hinged stabilizer built Up of pressed steel channel members.

TRAFFIC RISE ,IN OFFING IF the Hull-Barnsley railway line is closed—it is losing money—bus services in the area will carry far more traffic. Many people who work in Hull

al0 use the line. The alternative bus service would, however, take much longer and there is likely to be strong apposition to the proposal to discontinue the rail service..

Places affected by the proposal include Willerby, Little Weighton, South Cave, North Cave, Wallington, Sandholme, North Eastrington and South Howden, INDIA ENCOURAGES TRANSPORT

THE Government of India has asked the State Governments to take steps to increase the demand for motor vehicles. A reduction in tax and the

promotion of inter-State reciprocity to make transport operation more economic, have been suggested. More road vehicles would relieve congestion on rail.
