A PROGRAMME of improved con

ditions, "preparatory to national demands," with particular reference to overtime rates on Saturday afternoons and Sundays, is to be discussed at a joint conference of four Lancashire passenger branches of the Transport and General Workers' Union, according to Mr. T. McLean, secretary of the Rochdale branch.

The branches concerned are Bury, Manchester, Rochdale and Ashton and Oldham.

Mr. F. Coyle, national secretary of the passenger branch, told The Commercial Motor this week that he knew nothing about the proposal, and that he would not do so until it came through 'the normal channels."

GLASGOW WELCOMES INQUIRY COMMITTEE

WHEN the committee of inquiry into VY London Transport visited Glasgow Transport Department, last week, Cllr. R. McAllister, Socialist convenor of the transport committee, said they were very welcome.

"We are not concerned about any political considerations," he said. "It was thought that the committee members might find useful information in Glasgow, where the transport undertaking is at present showing a profit, and that at the same time their visit might be of help to our own transport committee."

Birmingham Transport Committee had refused, on political grounds, to permit the committee to visit their undertaking (The Commercial Motor last week).

Full facilities have already been given to the committee by the Socialistcontrolled transport committees of Liverpool and Manchester.
