R.H. (49) TAKES R.H.A. OFFICIALS BY SURPRISE

PUBLICATION, last Friday, of R.H. (49) has taken area officials of the Road Haulage Association by surprise. They did not expect it to be issued so soon.

It incorporates the recommendation for an increase of 3s. a week for male adults employed by A and B licence holders and for an extra is. a night in subsistence allowance. Representations on the proposal must be sent to the secretary of the Road Haulage Wages Council by August 27. _ Members of the R.H.A. have been told of their right to protest against the proposed increase, but it is thought that most hauliers will accept it philosophically as something over which they have no control.

The action of British Road Services in granting similar increments a few days before the Wages Council met to consider the matter has placed hauliers in a difficult position in objecting to the proposed increase.
