Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN Austin 5-cwt. van based on the A30 chassis has just been announced. Its all-steel body has a capacity of 60 Cu. ft.

At the rear, the body is styled to blend with the general lines of the front end, which is similar in appearance to the A30 two-door saloon. The wide single door at the rear is hinged on the off side, and is provided with a stop to prevent its swinging beyond the width of the body.

An extractor type ventilator is in the roof and the spare wheel is housed on a shelf below the floor at the rear.

Seating in the driving compartment follows the specification of that of the saloon model. The adjustable bucket seat is upholstered in p.v.c. over foam rubber.

The main mechanical difference between the van and the saloon is the rear-axle ratio, which is 5.375 to I instead of 4.875 to 1. It gives overall gear ratios of 5.375, 9.03, 13.921 and 21.984 to 1. in addition, the rear suspension has been greatly stiffened.

With its 800 -c.c. engine, which develops 28 b.h.p. at 4,800 r.p.m., the van should have a lively performance. The price in this country is £325 painted, plus purchase tax. The new Austin 5-cwt. van provides 60 cu. ft. of load space and costs £325, plus purchase tax. The specification follows closely

that of the A30 car.
