Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

a driver, works mainly on other duties and drives only to make special deliveries. The vehicle used is a 10ton Bedford so he is required to keep records. His work involves varied driving hours and distances. Sometimes he drives only two or three hours in a day, at other times he might spend most of the day driving quite long distances but it is not possible to forecast at the beginning of his duty just how much he will drive that day.

I understand the regulations about driving only four hours and within 25 miles of base but should he commence his record sheet when he reports for duty or when he begins driving? 4, he is not employed on driving duties for the first 5+ hours of his day, should he be given the statutory haran-hour break?

A Your employee has obviously been engaged by you as a driver and doubtless he is paid as such. Because the amount of driving he might be called upon to do each day cannot be forecast, he should commence his daily record sheet when he books on. He is classified as a driver and should, therefore, be allowed at least halfan-hour break after 51 hours on duty.
