----' with Redman Fisher

light crane

• Redman Fisher Engineering, which last December took over front Hymec Engineering consultancy full rights to the latter's VC 10 light vehicle-mounted crane (never placed in production), has now put this new product on the market for the first time.

The VC10 unit weighs 1351b, lifts loads up to half a ton, and was evolved primarily for use with vehicles below 30cwt unladen weight.

Hydraulically . operated, it has been designed so that it can be folded into a compact unit, with all moving parts enclosed, which can be fitted 'to, and removed from, the vehicle by one man. As it is demountable it does not add to the vehicle's weight, and the taxation class, as a consequence, is unaffected.

A standard sub-frame and support leg were designed primarily for the Ford Transit and Bedford CF ranges, but can be fitted to most cv having a chassis frame, without any need for modification. The sub-frame weighs 1251b.

The crane can be fitted to the Transit and CF ranges respectively without impairing the manufacturer's warranty; and specified for dealer or bodybuilder fitment and included, therefore, in the overall vehicle credit facilities.

Redman Fisher is developing a range of ancillary equipment, principally a wheeled floor-mounting stand in which the crane can • be installed and the dual unit used for transporting as well as lifting the load. Equipment already available includes a socket for letting into the floor in such locations as loading bays. Socket assemblies are also available for fitting to stanchions so that the crane can be used for general lifting duties in such areas as erection bays, fabrication shops, fitting shops, etc.

The VC 10 crane comprises a channel-section pressed-steel mast to the base of which is welded a spigot: this mates with the socket on the vehicle and allows the complete unit to be stewed continuously through 360deg. A telescopic jib is hinged to the top of the mast and the lifting motion is supplied by a cylinder and ram assembly with the ram pinned to the jib and the cylinder to the base of the mast.

With this arrangement, the jib can be folded down against the mast to give a portable unit measuring 62in. by Sin. by 6in.

The jib is made up from two separate • channel sections, one sliding within the other and which can be locked together to give operating radii of 40in.; 50in., and 60in., with lifting capacities of 11201b, 9001b, and 7501b respectively. With the jib fully extended the lifting hook can be raised to a maximum height of 91in. above the vehicle platform.

A single-acting displacement ram is fitted and the hydraulic circuit is designed so that, when the crane is folded, all air is excluded from the pump, reservoir and ram assembly thus preventing corrosion of the working parts.
