Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TO ACCOMMODATE the engine under the driver's seat without unduly lengthening the cab is the object of a forward-drive layout shown in patent No. 884,792. (Daimler-Benz A.G., Stuttgart-Unterttirkheim, Germany.)

Whilst the engine taken by itself is short enough to tie under the driver's seat, with the water pump, fan and radiator attached it exceeds this length. The essence of the patent is to divorce these units from the engine and locate them in the most favourable position in the front, as shown at (1).

Extended piping and a drive shaft (2) are needed; the latter is universally

jointed at both .ends and drives both The water pump. (3) and the fan.
