WE regret to announce the deaths of YV MR. ERNEST BEV1N, SIR CHARLEs BRESSEY, C.B., C.B.E., D.Se.tEng.), DI.. Mn. E. H. W. COOKE, and Mn. W. M.' CAMPBELL.

During his union days, Mr. Bevin had close contact with the road transport • industry and was much respected for his fair dealing and his appreciation of other points of view. Several times he contributed notable articles to "The Commercial Motor."

Sir Charles Bressey, who was 77 when he died, was one of the foremost road engineers of the century, and was the author of the Highway Development Survey of Greater London, 1935-1938. which bore his name. The report was published in 1938. Sir Charles joined the Ministry of Transport in 1919 as divisional road engineer (London) and 'became chief engineer in 1921. From 1928-1935 he held the post of principal technical officer of the Ministry. He held many academic appointments and was a member of the Permanent International Commission of ROad Congresses.

Mr. Cooke was a director of Transport Vehicles (Daimler), Ltd., and other companies in the B.S.A. group. Mr. Campbell, until he retired last May, was general manager of Stockton Transport Department. which he joined from Blackpool in 1933. He was 65 when he died.
