SUPPORTING an application by a Ringmer haulier for the extension of the radius of his B licence from 20 to 75 miles, eight local farmers told the South Eastern Licensing Authority, last week, that they were changing their herds to attested or pedigree stock. • One witness said that the applicant, ,Mr. Thomas A. Turner, of Middle Broad Farm, Ringmer, was the only suitable local contractor to carry polo ponies and Arab horses for showing. She was also about to start a pedigree herd. If Mr. Turner's radius were not extended. she would consider buying her own vehicle. MADRAS STATE BUS REVENUE

NET earnings of nationalized transIllport in the city of Madras amounted to 360,000 rupees in 1949-50. The 1950-51 earnings %%ere expected to be .600,000 rupees. Mr. Gopala Reddi, Finance Minister. gave these facts to the Madras Legislative Assembly recently, when it granted a budget demand. for 9,058,300 rupees for road transport. • The fleet strength was 322. of which 245 vehicles were in daily use, he said.

TTRACING the progress of the Insti1 tute of Transport's examination D scheme. Mr. . R. Lamb, M.Inst.T., chairman of the examinations commince, said this week that in the first session in 1926 there were 58 candidates at three' centres. In May, 1950. there were 1,250 candidates at 43 centres. and next month 1,300 candidates would be examined at 46 centres.
