TAILORING TIMETABLES to logistics customers helped boost Stena Line's freight volumes by over a third on one of its Irish Sea routes during the first half of 2005.

Stena Line Freight's business on the Irish Sea routes grew 28% in the first six months of 2005, compared with the same period last year. Most of the increase came from the Northern Corridor, where volumes rose 36% —mainly due to the purchase of the Fleetwood-Larne route in April last year.

Freight traffic on the Central Corridor, which includes the Holyhead-Dublin Port and HolyheadDun Laoghaire routes, grew 16%, while traffic on the Southern Corridor's Fishguard-Rosslare freight traffic rose 20%.

Overall,Stena's freight business rose 14%.

Traffic on the North Sea routes from the UK to the Netherlands rose 7 %;the company's Scandinavian routes attracted 9% more business than last year. Stena Line Freight commercial manager Frank Nieuwenhuys, says: "We believe our success is down to having the right combination of ships and timetables that are very much suited to the freight and logistics markets" • Stena Line Freight has celebrated hooking its 500,400th passenger on the £65m Stena HSS, which sails between Dun Laoghair and Holyhead, Directors at County Armaghbased Morgan Transport received a bottle of champagne, a meal and a free ferry crossing to mark the occasion.
