Since its launch in 1993 the Series from Leyland Daf has won many friends in the competitive sixwheel market. As the replacement for the Daf 2300 and the Leyland Constructor, this vehicle came as something of a culture shock to many operators. Boasting a number of notable improvements over its predecessors, Leyland Daf says that one in every five new six-wheel trucks on the road is a 75 Series.

75 Much of this operator-appeal can be put down to practical factors like its narrow cab (2.3m), its good all-round visibility, a sensible re-positioning of the headlights away from the vulnerable bumpers and much more durable steel cab steps.

A general simplicity of construction means straightforward servicing and good levels of reliability. Powered by the Daf 8.65-litre, six-cylinder engine, the 75 Series also has revised suspension with a two-spring rear bogie using Daf's singlereduction axles rated at 11 tonnes.

For a closer look at the servicing requirements of the model we tracked down an October 1993 tipper, showing 39,000km, at Leyland Daf's HQ in Thame, Oxfordshire.
