Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A five-year-old Cummins NTE 320-powered Seddon Atkinson tractor recently topped 1,000,000km—plus many hours of engine-driven load discharge—with no more than routine maintenance along the way.

The vehicle works a sevenday week with Buckinghamshire-based Skim Milk Supplies with three drivers and is double-shifted on week days. Its 14-litre engine is reported as still having the original fuel pump and injectors (which have never been removed). During a recent smoke test, it recorded just 1.67 units which is less than 50% of that legally allowed!

Skim Milk Supplies director Cliff Cox commented: "We have been operating Cummins 14-litre engines for about 15 years. They have proved to be extremely reliable for our work, which is not only demanding but also requires the highest standards of reliability."
